The promise: every rate, price, and incentive on this site is verified against a live primary source before publishing, the verification date is displayed on the page, and pages are re-checked on a schedule — because electricity rates change monthly, gas prices change daily, and incentives can vanish overnight (the federal EV charger credit did exactly that on June 30, 2026).
Our sources, in order of preference
- Government data: EIA Electric Power Monthly (electricity rates), DOE Alternative Fuels Data Center (incentives), IRS guidance (tax credits), FHWA (driving statistics), EPA (vehicle efficiency).
- Industry primary sources: AAA fuel prices, utility tariff sheets, manufacturer spec sheets and pricing pages.
- Cross-referenced industry guides (installation cost ranges) — always at least two independent sources, named in each article's methodology section.
What we don't do
- No invented hands-on testing claims. Where a number comes from public data, we say so.
- No sponsored rankings. If we ever add affiliate links, they'll be disclosed and will never change a number.
- No AI-recycled statistics. Drafting uses AI assistance; every figure is verified by a human check against the primary source before publish.
